In the installation section of the website, postgresql-contrib-16 is listed as part of the postgres install.

That package does not appear to be available. Is it still required? And if so, what package should be installed?

this is virtual package:

# apt install postgresql-contrib-16
Note, selecting 'postgresql-16' instead of 'postgresql-contrib-16'
postgresql-16 is already the newest version (16.9-1.pgdg130+1).
